RESOLUTION NO. 01-01
RESOLUTION OF THE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AGENCY (RTPA) EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT FOR RAIL PASSENGER SERVICE EXTENSION FROM SACRAMENTO TO REDDING
WHEREAS, Caltrans has prepared a report indicating that rail passenger service may be feasibly extended to Redding in 2006; and
WHEREAS, increased passenger rail service would provide another viable mode of transportation between Redding and parts south; and
WHEREAS, passenger rail may provide an alternative to auto or airline
travel; and
WHEREAS, individuals and groups riding the train will help ease
congestion on Interstate 5; and
WHEREAS, individuals and groups riding the train will not contribute to air quality degradation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Shasta County Regional Transportation Planning Agency hereby indicates its support for the extension of rail passenger service from Sacramento to Redding in 2006, if not sooner.
DULY PASSED AND ADOPTED this 27th day of February 2001, by the Shasta County Regional Transportation Planning Agency.
