RECOMMENDATION
This
item is presented for Agency information only; no action is required.
DISCUSSION
Previously,
the Agency directed Staff to actively encourage our Federal Representatives to
support the California Consensus Principles oriented towards reauthorization of
the current transportation act.
Additionally, the Agency has provided direction to staff to encourage
our Federal Representatives to earmark funding for two projects. The two projects are the State Route 44
Stillwater Project - from Airport Road to Deschutes Road, and the Airport Road
Corridor Project - in the Redding airport area.
Board
Chair Comnick, Brian Crane of Caltrans, Ray Duryee of the City of Redding, and
myself, met with Congressman Herger on December 14, 2002, and solicited his
support of both the Consensus Principles and the two projects mentioned above. Mr. Herger indicated that he was very
concerned about doing whatever he could to help out the residents of the
Northstate with reauthorization and with these two projects.
On
December 19, 2002, the same team met with Stacy Lybeck of Senator Barbara
Boxers staff in Sacramento. The same
agenda was used to guide this meeting with Ms. Lybeck. On February 3, 2003 the attached letter was
received from Senator Boxer thanking the team for meeting with her office and
encouraging them to keep her informed.
As
of this writing I am in the process of arranging a meeting with Michael Walker
of Senator Feinstein’s office.
