Dear Sue:

Subject:           2004 Unmet Transit Needs Comments

It appears that the only comments that were listed in the 2004 Unmet Transit Needs that require responses relate to policy issues and a few operational improvements. The Redding Area Bus Authority's (RABA) responses are as follows:

Policy Issues

The majority of the comments are requests for the following:

·         Sunday service

·         Extended hours

·        Service to outlying communities

·         Improvements to low farebox ratio

·        Ridership survey

·        Alternative performance measures

Operational Improvements

Below are staffs responses to the comments at the 2004 Unmet Transit Needs:

Placement of Bus Stops. Industry standards typically place bus stops at 1/4-mile intervals; in those areas where density is low, there are longer distances between stops. Adding any new stops will require a thorough review due to the timing of the routes, i.e., if additional stops would lengthen the route from its scheduled time frame, then a determination would have to be made on which stops to modify.

Bench Requests. Benches have been placed at the Shasta Lake Senior Center, and the placement of a bench at the Anderson Senior Center is currently under review.

·                   On Time Performance. Route 3 has riders in wheelchairs. A recent survey of the route indicates that there are from one to three trips a day by wheelchair users. While RABA has factored in time for wheelchair users, the loading and unloading may cause some on- time performance issues on an occasional basis.

·         With respect to the comment that it takes too long to get from Anderson to Redding (or vice versa) on the Demand Response, RABA abides by the speed limits. The distance factor is what it is.

Should you have questions or require additional information, please feel free to call me at 2457114 or Sue Hanson at 245-7116.

Sincerely,

Ray E. Duryee Transportation Manager
