State and federal statutes and regulations require several specific periodic planning activities.
CURRENT STATE PLANNING DOCUMENTS AND AMENDMENTS
STATE
Every two years, the California Transportation Commission (CTC) must adopt a State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). State law allows the RTPA to comment on this program.
REGIONAL AND LOCAL
The MPO is responsible for the Regional Transportation Improvement Program (RTIP). Every two years the MPO is required by the state to develop and adopt a 5-year program for planned transportation programs, which includes a listing of recommended capital outlay projects for transportation improvements, included new facilities, rehabilitation, and operational improvements.
Annually, the RTPA is required to prepare and adopt an Overall Work Program (OWP) that serves as the RTPA's planning budget.
