CORRIDOR STUDIES
- Ox Yoke Road/Riverside Avenue Corridor Study and Traffic Impact Fee Program
Project
Growth and development pressures continue with the City of Anderson and areas of Shasta County north of the City of Anderson. Planning an efficient and affordable transportation system to alleviate existing traffic congestion and support future development within the study area is the primary focus of this transportation planning analysis. The study focuses on the need for improvements within the Ox Yoke Road/Riverside Avenue Corridor.
Congestion on Interstate 5 (I-5) through our region is growing at a rate of 10% per year, while funding has not increased. I-5 is projected to fail within the next 10 years, meaning we will experience stop-and-go traffic in the morning and evening commute hours on our freeway system.
Meetings have started with local regional planning
agencies, city councils, board of supervisors, city managers, and county
administrative officers of the jurisdictions along I-5 in Shasta and Tehama
counties. The focus of these meetings is to develop a consensus that a regional
study is needed to look at capacity improvements along I-5, and develop a
fair-share revenue program. There is unanimous support in moving forward with
this study.

Southern Region Transportation Planning Study and Traffic Impact Fee Program
The Shasta County RTPA is addressing the growing needs of Shasta County's
Southern Region. The planning process will address current and future
transportation needs in the West Cottonwood area, and identify specific
projects for future funding.
Intelligent Transportation System - Link to SCRTPA ITS webpage
Shasta County Regional Transportation Planning Agency and Caltrans District 2, along with stakeholders in the community, developed the Shasta County Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Architecture and Deployment Plan. This document is mandated and serves as a framework where various electronics, communications, information processing systems, and hardware devices can be deployed to improve the safety and efficiency of the county's surface transportation system.
Some of the issues addressed during the workshops included traffic conditions, population trends, community demographics, land use, transportation of goods, environmental issues, transit services and bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
299/44/36/395 Focus Route Corridor Management Plan (Draft)
This CMP was prepared in response to The Highway Safety, Traffic Reduction, Air Quality, and Port Security Bond Act of 2006, approved by the voters as Proposition 1B on November 7, 2006. The CMP emphasizes cross-jurisdictional management, managing the corridor as a whole through coordination with all agencies. The document encourages a shared commitment to seek compatible values that nurture economic growth by meeting long-term capacity needs, while maintaining balance with quality of life. It suggests management of major local arterials in coordination with the State highway system to achieve maximum mobility along the corridor.
